We recently caught up with Jess and asked her a few questions about her fitness routine and to find out a little bit more on how she started on her journey.

Why is staying healthy so important to you?

To me health is life! I am very blessed with great health but it has not always been that way. I truly believe in the saying, “make food your medicine” and therefore after overcoming my own health issues and now living a truly Happy & Healthy life, I have not only made this my forever lifestyle but also my career helping others do the same.

What does your ideal day consist of?

Great night sleep, morning gratitude’s with a 5am coffee in my warm bed, 6am HIIT or weight session, followed by a delicious homemade nutrient rich breakfast. Then I am ready for whatever the world throws at me, which is usually working with my personal training clients outdoors or doing nutrition consults. I love my job! Otherwise on weekends I love doing outdoor actives with my husband Jason liking boating or hiking.

Tell us about your ideal day on a plate…

Oh wow, that’s hard… I love all foods and this question just makes me think about Food! I am happy when my plate (meal) is balanced just like a good day or life! A plate full of protein, healthy fats and low GI healthy veg is great…. Just like a day of work, rest, play, sunshine and laughs! Balance is the key to everything.

What are 5 essentials for your pantry? Organic cold pressed coconut oil, organic cacao powder, mixed raw nuts, coconut milk and Boomers Protein Whey Isolate
How and when did you first become interested in protein as part of your health and fitness - What was your journey?

I started using protein powder supplements as part of my diet long before studying fitness and nutrition back in 2012. I was influenced by my roommate living in Melbourne at the time. I remember he had this huge bucket of protein powder and I asked him about it. I was working out every morning but I had no idea about nutrition back then and always felt fatigued. Since then I have studied nutrition for fitness and I always try and eat a healthy well-balanced diet to support my training. I do believe that protein powders are the best supplement when you can’t get what you need from food. When it comes to protein powders- quality is key and that is why I love Boomers because it is all natural and has all 9 essential amino acids required for muscle recovery and cell repair.

What’s your favourite exercise?

I love CrossFit, it is the perfect mix of cardio, flexibility, strength, gymnastics and mobility! You never know what WOD you are going to get and the challenge keeps its interesting. Yoga also keeps me sane

What are the benefits of adding protein to your diet for you?

SO many- feeling full longer, muscle repair & cell repair, which all aids the growth of lean muscle mass and has the long-term benefit of speeding up your metabolic rate. I can certainly tell the difference and all of nutrition clients do too!

What are some everyday ways you add protein to your diet?

Breakfast smoothies, post workout shakes, raw treats and the best thing about Boomers is that it is heat stable relative to other brands so I even add it to soups and baked goods.

What are your tips and advice for those thinking of taking Boomers Protein?

Try it- you won’t turn back, because it is all natural and has little to no taste you can literally add it to anything and gain the great health benefits.

What are your top three workout tunes?

Anything with a beat and LOUD…. Eye of the Tiger comes first to mind first- ha ha!!

What are your goals/fitness goals for this year?

Have my healthy baby in 3 weeks and get back to my normal training routine as soon as I can. To me exercise is my outlet and keeps me mentally focused. I have stayed very healthy through low impact training and good nutrition during my pregnancy but I miss my standard daily routine.

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice about protein what would it be and why?

Wow- my younger self needs plenty of advice but when it comes to protein it would be- eat more food and protein to feel full longer and better in general. The advice really is that the correct nutrients consumed at the correct time won’t make you fat, in fact it is quite the opposite.

What keeps you motivated?

My health- feeling good and having a clear focused mind.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

Getting over health issues without prescribed medication and having the determination to do so, making my life better the correct way! There should be no short cuts when it comes to health.

What are the most important lessons you’ve learnt along the way?

No one can do it for you- you need to motivate yourself, get educated, do the work and stay motivated. Also surround yourself with positive people who want to see you succeed.

What do you feel is the biggest nutrition blunders you’ve experienced?

Going on My Kitchen Rules Series 5…. LOL, what a journey that was, but it has made me the person I am today and I learnt so much. I was very committed to training at the time but gosh I ate so much junk and not long after filming I started my journey with good nutrition, losing my filming weight quickly the healthy way.

What are your tips for staying fit and healthy on the go?

Always plan- it is that simple. Think about your schedule what you can eat, when you can eat and when you can move your body. Then prepare! Knowing your road blocks means you tackle them!

Can you share your favourite Boomers product or recipe with us?

Yes it would have to be my Chocolate & Banana Smoothie Bowl.

Ingredients: One ripe banana, 2 table spoons of Absolute Organic Cacao powder, 400ml can of Absolute Organic coconut milk and one 30gram scoop of Boomers Whey Protein Isolate. Method: Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth. Place in a bowl, top with fruit and nuts! This is so filling due to the healthy fats and protein and is the perfect way to kick start daily digestion.  Tip: If rushing off to work place this in a container and take it along with you. If you are vegan you can also use Boomers Brown Rice Protein.

Macros: 32 grams of protein, 59.5 grams of fat and 27 grams of low GI
